This is my favorite time of year in the Hudson Valley. There is so much to do every weekend, the possibilities are endless, and some of the fun can include the four-legged members of your household, your dog.

Take A Cemetery Tour With Your Dog This October

If I told you that you could take your dog for a walk while soaking up some local history, would you say sign me up? What if I added that it would also include some spooky storytelling? If you are still all in, let me add one more interesting fact: it all benefits the Ulster County SPCA.

Now that I have you hooked, let me get you the rest of the details. The Ulster County SPCA, in partnership with the historic Wiltwyck Rural Cemetery, is hosting Hounds and Headstones. This storytelling stroll through the grounds of Wiltwyck Cemetery for you and your dog, who must be leashed and have proof of current rabies vaccination, will begin at 4 PM on Thursday, October 23rd, with costumed storytellers who plan to tingle your spine with their tales. A new tour steps off every 15 minutes until the last one, which starts at 7 PM.

What is Hounds and Headstones at the Wiltwyck Cemetery

There won't be any ghosts or jump scares, and all ages are welcome. You can also reserve an earlier walk if you prefer the autumn glow to the darkness. You really don't even need a dog, but you need to be dog-friendly. Flashlights will be provided for the later walks as well as refreshments. Also, if you bring a dog, please make sure to bring a bag to clean up after them. 100 percent of the night's proceeds go to the UCSPCA.
