New York State Seeks Holiday Tree for Special Honor
New York State officials are currently searching the state to try to locate the perfect holiday tree for the holiday season.
The holidays will be here before you know it, and many of us will begin the yearly exercise of trying to find the perfect Christmas tree to decorate at home.
Christmas Trees in the Hudson Valley
Some homes use an artificial tree, others will venture out to either cut down their own tree, or they'll visit a Christmas tree lot to pick out the perfect tree. Thankfully, if you choose the cut your own option, the Hudson Valley is full of great tree farms that offer numerous options.
The process of finding a tree is fairly easy for homeowners and their displays inside, but it appears to be a bit harder to find the right tree for larger, state-operated outside displays.
New York State Seeks Donated Tree for Holidays
The New York State Office of General Services (NYSOGS) is currently looking for this year's holiday tree to be displayed in front of the state Capitol for the holiday season and is hoping that residents of New York will help them find it.
What Type of Tree?
This year, the NYSOGS is looking for someone in New York to donate a spruce tree that stands between 35 and 55 feet tall, is easy to get to, and is clear of any power lines.

OGS officials said proximity to the Capital Region is ideal but not a deal breaker, so if you know of a spruce tree somewhere in the Hudson Valley Region that might be an option, you can contact the OGS by emailing Kevin Ciampi at Kevin.Ciampi@ogs.ny.gov.
Include your full name, the address where the tree is located, a photo of the tree, and a phone number where you can be reached. If your tree is selected, New York will remove it for free in mid-November.
Where Will Tree be Displayed?
Once removed, it will be placed on the south side of the Capitol on the Empire State Plaza near the Plaza skating rink and lit as part of New York State's tree lighting ceremony in December.
