Schools are out for the summer! This is such an exciting feeling that I can still remember. Signing yearbooks in school and grabbing phone numbers to hang out during the summer was a must.

There was a lot of excitement at the end of the school year especially to play outside during summer and have fun!

While school has been closed since last month, Hudson Valley students have been able to get free meals since then.

Where Can Kids Get Free Meals In The Hudson Valley This Summer?

The Monticello Central School District shared great news for residents on their social media platforms. They have teamed up with USDA Summer Food Service Program to provide meals for students in the Hudson Valley.

They included that these meals are available to those who are 18 years old and under. These meals are also free of charge and provide nutritional benefits as well during July and August.

Proof of income or registration is not required to get these free meals. More information about the dates and locations to get these free meals can be found on 94.3 Lite FM.

In addition to children and teens getting free meals this summer, they can also get more during the year.

Social media allows us to learn and stay connected with others. Governor Kathy Hochul’s Facebook post has informed us about the options for New York state students and receiving free meals.

Facebook users shared their opinions about this in the comments section of this post. There were mixed reviews including,

I think it’s a great program!”

“This can be great but what's the plan to minimize the amount of waste giving free food creates.”

”Nothing is free somebody has to pay --school taxes going up to cover cost”

The meals are not free. Kathy isn't paying for them. We, the taxpayers are."

For more information about this program, be sure to visit the New York state website. I believe that children and teens should have the option of receiving free meals in school but with balance.
