Why New York Chose This Fish As A Symbol Of The State

It's beautiful to see nature thriving during the summer in New York State. The birds are happy and singing their songs while the frogs join their night time choir. There's an abundance of lush green trees and fresh flowers all around which I love.

When we're on our outdoor adventure in New York State, we can take a look at local rivers and streams to see our fish friends as well.

New York Chose This Fish As A Symbol Of The State

A great way for a family to enjoy summer outdoors could be to find a local farm or nearby stream that allows residents to feed fish.

It was exciting to learn that The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation shared information about the symbols of New York State. They highlighted a fish that we can appreciate. The New York State DEC mentioned the Brook Trout!

They shared that the Brook Trout is known for "Symbolizing pure water as well as an excellent fish".

Since Brook Trout need clear water, they have become a symbol of clean streams and lakes throughout New York. They are also a great reminder for us to make a commitment to protecting nature and local waterways as well!

Have You Heard Of Trout Town USA In New York State?

The Brook Trout also has a special connection to this Hudson Valley town.

Fun fact, did you know that Roscoe here in the Hudson Valley is known for being Trout Town USA? It's pretty cool!

Trout Town USA is located in the Catskills and is known for place where we can visit beautiful trout streams! In Roscoe, we can continue the tradition of going trout fishing or simply seeing them in this environment.

The Brook Trout is not the only animal that represents the beauty of New York State's natural environments. Another animal also plays a special role in the state history which is the beaver.

New York Also Chose This Mammal As It's Official State Animal

Beavers are an important part of New York State’s history. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation highlighted that beavers are referred to as

“Nature’s finest wetland engineer”

They also mentioned that these cuties can make a positive difference in the waterways throughout New York State! It's great that beavers create dams that help support wetlands and provide a habitat for many plants and other animals as well.

Spending time outdoors in the Hudson Valley is one of my favorite things, I also enjoy exploring different attractions and new experiences.

I took part in the Hudson River Cruises Sunset Cruise out of Ulster County, NY. Being on the Hudson River, seeing historical sites and soaking in the fresh, summer air was uplifting.

This is the only way that history buffs, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts can experience these 5 sites along the Hudson River.
