Unfortunately, food insecurity is still in the headlines around the country. Here in the Hudson Valley many families are going through this winter trying to balance the bills and the cost of groceries. This Friday (January 8, 2021) the Mohonk Preserve is jumping in to do their part to solve this ongoing problem but they need your help.

The Mohonk Preserve which is normally a place we all go work off some calories is hoping you can donate food this Friday at their Family Friday Food Drive that will support Family of New Paltz. The Mohonk Preserve will be collecting items at their Testimonial Gateway Trailhead which is located at 35 Route 299 in New Paltz.

The weather Friday, with its winter sunshine will make it the perfect day to plan a walk and a donation drop. Donations are being accepted from 7 AM to 3 PM. Make a plan to drop off an item or two and then enjoy a walk to enjoy the preserve. They are looking for non-perishable items that include food and personal items. It is not clear whether you can make a monetary donation that day but reaching out to the Mohonk Preserve could answer that question.

2020 put a lot of pressure on all of our community resources and unfortunately with the COVID-19 pandemic still causing life disruptions our local food pantry's need us more than ever. Many families are still relying on the food pantries to help them with essentials. In addition to canned foods this food drive is also looking for dry goods, pet food, personal items and household products.
