Another animal was recently rescued from a backyard in New York State after becoming incapacitated thanks to a very popular sports accessory.

Countless New Yorkers have become accustomed to sharing their property with animals ranging from birds and squirrels to deer and even black bear, but some safety precautions are more well-known than others. One rescue organization is hoping to spread more knowledge about the dangers of one item in particular.

Deer Tangled in Soccer Net in New York State

"Public service announcement!", began a recent post from the Strong Island Animal Rescue League. "Although Strong Island promotes athletic activities, please be sure to take your nets down when not in use ! It can save a life". From birds to deer, there have been several instances this year alone of animals becoming tangled in backyard sport accessories. While some animals have experienced significant injuries during their struggle to free themselves, Strong Island Animal Rescue League shared that luckily, this buck was relatively unharmed.

Bear on Campus at SUNY New Paltz NY

On Thursday (June 23, 2022) this unassuming good-size black bear wandered onto campus and decided to climb a tree. The SUNY New Paltz Police along with the NYS DEC Police monitored the situation on-site. They were able to encourage the campus visitor to return home without incident.
