3 Things to Love & One Thing to Never Forget in Highland, NY
Never forgetting this could save you a ton of money in the future!
The odds say that most of us have driven through the hamlet of Highland at one time or another. Highland, located in the town of Llyod, is impossible to avoid if you ever cross the Mid Hudson Bridge so even if you think you've never been there, you probably have...LOL!
I'm a huge fan of nostalgia and being that I lived in Highland back in the day it has a special place in my heart! Before you scroll down to see the one thing you should never forget, do you remember any of these places that I can remember spending a lot of time at?
For many years if you wanted to have a meal outside on the Hudson River one of the best places to do that was Mariners Harbor. They not only had some of the best food in the area but I can remember spending many summer days and nights outside on their deck dancing the night away. In 2019 it was reported that the new owners of the restaurant were going to do renovations to the building and hopefully reopen sooner than later. Those plans changed after there were too many issues with the building due to flooding and from what many have told us the building was demolished a whole back. It's unclear if the restaurant will be rebuilt or not but count me in for it happening!
Billy's Slurp & Burp
Another place that many area residents will remember tipping a few back at was the "slurp & burp". Billy's was located on Vineyard Ave in Highland and was one of the bars that were talked about when we explored some of the Hudson Valley's best bars that are long gone. One thing I remember most about Billy's was how small the kitchen was...LOL....don't ask me why or how I know this...LOL! Underground Coffee & Ales are now located where Billys once lived at 74 Vineyard Ave in Highland.
Gene from Highland texted us, "hey I wanna let you know about Wilklow orchard by the high school they have good live music every Friday and a fun family environment". They are located on one of the Hudson Valley's best street names, Pancake Hollow Road in Highland and feature pick your apples, pumpkins, and more. From what I hear their apple cider donuts are amazing as well. Get more information on events and more online here.
Highland is home to a bunch of choices for great food from pizza at Brenneis or Pizza Mia to wings and more at Sal's Place. Vigneto Cafe and Coppalas are great as well. If you are hungry you will definitely find some great food in Highland.
Never Forget This About Highland, NY
If you drive in or around Highland which is located in the town of Llyod make sure you pay attention to your speed! If you speed in Highland you will be pulled over and ticketed! Some call Highland the most likely place to get pulled over. Back when I was younger and much dumber!! I was pulled over and ticketed in Highland something like 4 times in the course of a year.
