New Marriage License Applications Halted in Hudson Valley Town

A Dutchess County town has announced they are not offering any new marriage licenses at this time.

If you are newly engaged and are ready to apply for a new marriage license in Pleasant Valley, New York get ready to wait a while as the town has recently announced that they will not be accepting any new marriage license applications.

Pleasant Valley, NY NOT Offering Marriage License Applications

According to the Town of Pleasant Valley's Facebook page, the Town Clerk’s office will NOT be accepting any new marriage license applications for the next month. The town posted,

"The Town Clerk’s office will NOT be accepting any new marriage license applications from September 10th, 2024 thru October 15th, 2024. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

 

It's unclear why the town has temporally halted the new marriage license applications but what is clear is that some residents (who aren't fans of marriage...LOL) took to the comment section of the post to poke fun at the change saying things like, "I believe this is due to the statistics, that 100% of all divorces, start with marriage😉", "Maybe it’ll make SOMEONE THINK TWICE", and "Take it as a sign people!! No license and no wedding!"

If you are planning to get legally married in New York State all couples are required to apply in person for a marriage license to any town or city clerk within the state. Once filled out the application must be signed by both applicants in the presence of the town or city clerk, so the good news for any couples in Pleasant Valley is that all couples can apply for a marriage license at any of the other town clerk offices across the Hudson Valley.
