Saugerties, New York Family Takes Home Grammy Award
The Hudson Valley is home to an immense amount of talent.
Earlier this year, on the other end of the entertainment world, a local Ulster County family took home a Grammy Award.
The Saugerties Central School District took time to recognize 9th grader Phoebe Siegal, along with her parents, younger sister Ava. The Siegal Family and singer-songwriter Lucky Diaz won the Grammy for Best Children's Album titled Brillo Brillo.
The album, which beat out big names like John Legend and Alice Cooper, was recorded in Old Soul Studios located in Catskill, New York.
What Award Statue is Made in Ulster County, New York?
While we're on the topic of awards...
Did you know one of the most prestigious awards in all of entertainment, is made right here in the Hudson Valley?
Since 1929 the iconic Oscar statue has been given to the best-of-the-best in the world of film. According to ABC7 NY, for over a decade those statures have been created at Urban Art Projects in Orange County.
There's an extensive process that goes into making the iconic statue, that begins with mold and a wax copy. ABC7 explains that from there, there are 12 layers of ceramic shell done by hand and take up to 24 hours to dry.
Bronze then replaces the wax Oscar and is "meticulously crafted with immense pride." Later, the statues are sent to EPNER Technology in Brooklyn where they are then plated in copper, then nickel and then finally...24 karat gold.
Next thing you know, those Hudson Valley made statues are in the hands of some of the best actors, actresses, writers, and directors in the business.
Pretty cool, right?
