New York Yankees & Mets Could Break Crazy MLB Record
What an amazing MLB season it has been! And boy, does it feel good to be a New Yorker right now! Both the New York Yankees are climbing to the top of the divisions, making their way to the World Series.
The New York Yankees lead the Cleveland Guardians 1 - 0 in their series as they won yesterday's game 5 - 2. The New York Mets are currently tied in their series with the LA Dodgers 1 -1 after yesterday's victory 7 - 3.
Wouldn't it be amazing to have this year's World Series be a Subway Series? Now, has that ever happened before? Has there been a prior time where the Yankees and the Mets have played each other in the World Series? And have any other World Series been played by two teams in the same city?
The 2000 World Series
To answer whether or not the Yankees and the Mets have faced off in the World Series before, the answer is yes, and only once. The New York Yankees played the New York Mets in this World Series back in 2000, which was the first World Series to be played in New York since 1956. The Yankees won the series 4 games to 1. So, if the Yankees and the Mets go up against each other, I'm sure the Mets will be out for blood!\
Now, have any other cities managed to have anything similar to the Yankees and Mets's Subway Series?
The 1906 World Series
Yes, but it hasn't happened in a LONG time! All the way back in the 1906 World Series, the Chicago Cubs faced the Chicago White Sox. This was only the third edition of the World Series at the time.
The Cubs had posted the highest regular-season win total (116) and winning percentage (.763) in the major leagues since the advent of the 154-game season. The White Sox, known as the "Hitless Wonders" after finishing with the worst team batting average (.230) in the American League, beat the Cubs in six games for one of the greatest upsets in Series history as the Sox out-pitched the Cubs in their first two wins and out-hit them in their last two.
Yankees and Mets Could Set the Record For Most Crosstown World Series'
Considering that the World Series has been around for 121 years, it has only seen 2 Crosstown World Series (for teams that still exist). That means Chicago and New York are tied for the record.
If the Yankees and the Mets end up going all the way in their divisions this year, then New York will come out on top and hold the record for the most crosstown World Series!
This record is not to be confused with World Series' that have been played by teams from the SAME STATE. That, and also, these consist of teams that are still around. If you want to get technical, the Yankees, Dodgers, and Giants have all faced off, but the Dodgers and Giants are no longer in New York.

Thank you to my coworker Dan McGuire for being a completely obsessive a**hole about the game of baseball, lol (He told me to write that in).
