It's no secret that rain hasn't fallen in any considerable amount for weeks in the Hudson Valley. While the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) hasn't declared a drought, they have increased local fire risk assessments.
High Fire Risks in the Hudson Valley
Nearly the entire eastern half of New York State currently has a "high" fire risk assessment due to the increasing dry conditions. While burn bans are now in effect in many parts of Ulster County, some towns have taken it a step further.
State of Emergency in the Town of Lloyd
The town of Lloyd, NY has declared a state of emergency in response to high fire risks. Not only does the state of emergency include a burn ban like many other Ulster County towns, but includes language to allow officials to "take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property ".
State of Emergency in Rosendale, NY
A state of emergency has been declared in nearby Rosendale, NY as well, essentially banning all types of outdoor burning without specific authorization by New York State authorities.
