Is This The Hudson Valley’s School Supply Headquarters?
When it comes to back-to-school supply shopping, it can get a bit tense, maybe a little chaotic if you don't plan ahead. While some school districts send home the ever-growing supply lists on the last day of school, others release them with teacher assignments during the summer, and some even wait until the first day of the school year.
In this particular part of the Hudson Valley, the neck of the woods where I grew up in Dutchess County, there seems to be a common denominator when it comes to back-to-school supply shopping: we ALL did, and now that we have our own kids, continue to do it at the same place.
If We Don't Have It, You Probably Don't Really Need It
They've been serving Fishkill and the larger Hudson Valley community for more than 50 years now, and what they say as part of their branding is quite true.
If we don't have it, you probably don't really need it.
During their 50th anniversary celebrations last year, I shared stories of growing up around the corner from Jerrick's in Fishkill, and reminiscing on many pretty big life events that this store was part of. Balloons and decorations for graduations, bridal and baby showers, 21st birthday swag, and now i'm going there for my own daughter's birthday parties.
Equally as vivid in my Jerrick's memory bank is school supply shopping at Jerrick's, and now, 30-something years later, here I am taking my own child to the very same place to get all of her back to school goods.
Is This Iconic Fishkill Store The Hudson Valley HQ For Back-To-School?
While i'm not sure if there's an official title, or crowned champion in this category (yet), it seems like Jerrick's remains THE spot for back-to-school in the area. Even with the convenience of ordering online, it feels like ordering from home isn't even an option with the amount of people walking down the aisles, supply lists and coupons in hand, filling up baskets with essential school items.
I had to wait quite a while to get a clear view of this aisle.
Some of the local teachers even indicate that specific items on their classroom supply lists can be found at the iconic Fishkill store.
There's something to be said about the comfort of what you know, and what I know is that i'm thankful for this locally owned and operated business that has been such a part of my, and now my daughter's, back to school traditions.
