More Electric Vehicles Coming to the Hudson Valley After New Grant
Nearly $350,000 has recently been awarded to towns across New York State to help purchase zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV), including several here in the Hudson Valley.
Recently the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) announced $342,500 in grant money meant to add more electric vehicles to local fleets. But how much money is coming to the Hudson Valley, and where?
$342,500 Awarded to new York State Municipalities for Electric Vehicles
In all, 17 separate municipalities were selected to receive portions of the grant that are earmarked for both fully-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Following the launch of NYS DEC electric boat motors last summer, it's all part of a massive push to turn fleet vehicles of all kinds green.
Which Hudson Valley Towns Received Electric Vehicle Grant Money?
While areas in the lower Hudson Valley, like Croton on Hudson and Hastings on Hudson both received five-figure sums for the purchase of electric vehicles, the only Mid-Hudson Valley municipality to receive a grant was the City of Beacon.
Beacon to Receive $15,000 Towards Electric Fleet Vehicles
The NYS DEC shared that the City of Beacon received $15,000 towards the purchase of two battery-powered electric vehicles. Grants were awarded through applications to the Climate Smart Communities Grant Program.
Funding for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in New York
The grants were announced nearly a year-to-the-day of the unveiling of another step towards an emissions-free future: New York's first federally-funded electric vehicle charging station. The high-speed chargers were unveiled at 451 Washington Ave in Kingston, NY in December 2023.

Grants are still available for municipalities to install more electric vehicle chargers across the state, with $5.5 million dollars of available funding. Learn more about Governor Hochul's ZEV Infrastructure Grants here.
