Casting Info For New Yorkers on New Trout Regulations

Trout season starts this tomorrow (April 1st) and there are a few new regulations that all anglers need to be aware of. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has come up with a new regulation plan that will allow for trout season to be year-round.

I am not that much of a fishing enthusiast but Ryan loves to fish with his Uncle Joey. They catch whatever they can get and it's usually small fish. It's always catch-and-release, of course. But there is time to snap a quick picture on their phone so that there is proof of what they caught. Now with the new regulations, they can catch trout too.

According to New York Upstate, the Department of Environmental Conservation has extended the trout season from April 1st to October 15th to now year-round. At first, it was thought that the winter season allowed the trout population to replenish, but that is not necessarily the case after extensive studies.

The changes include brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout. It is in effect in the inland streams and rivers and not lakes, ponds, tidal streams, and off chutes of the Great Lakes, Lake Champlain, and the Finger Lakes.
