The yearly event won't happen this year.

Every year on September 11th, we as a country morn the awful events that changed the world back on September 11, 2001. Part of that morning for many years has included the 9/11 "Tribute in Light", which each year has twin towers of light shine up into the sky over Manhattan. The light tribute was done each year to honor of the nearly 3,000 people that were killed during the terrorist attack on America on September 11th.

According to WPIX and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum spokesperson Michael Frazier, the Tribute in Light has been canceled this year because of health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. The tribute, in normal years would take around 40 people working closely together for several weeks to produce the 'Tribute in Light' each year.

The decision to cancel wasn't an easy decision to make, Frazier told WPIX that, "This incredibly difficult decision was reached in consultation with our partners after concluding the health risks during the pandemic were far too great for the large crew required to produce the annual Tribute in Light."

With the tribute being canceled this year they are working on something special in its place, The 9/11 Memorial and Museum along with NYC & Company and many other buildings throughout New York City are planning to light up in blue in commemoration of the 19th anniversary of 9/11.

Buildings lighting up blue, according to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum is the next best way to remember, "In a spirit of unity and remembrance, the city will come together for a 'Tribute in Lights' to inspire the world and honor the promise to never forget."
